I’ve always loved Christmas in Europe and this year I actually got to live in the middle of it. For my holiday season in Berlin I wanted to try and visit as many Christmas markets as possible. Luckily, I was able to visit most of the markets in Berlin before they closed because of Covid. Next year I’m looking forward to visiting the Charlottenburg Christmas market and all of the other markets that closed early.
Lucia Christmas Market
November 22nd – December 31st
Prenzlauer Berg
10117 Berlin
The Lucia Christmas market in Prenzlauer Berg was my favorite out of all the markets I went to. The theme this year was Scandinavian winter, which means that all of the decorations had little nods to Stockholm and Reykjavik. Both of which are places that I got to visit during my last winter in Europe. I went to the Lucia Christmas market in Kulturbrauerei a few times this winter, but my favorite was when I went with my roommate and her friends. We spent a few hours drinking Glühwein and eating Kaiserschmarrn mit apfelmus.
Gendarmenmarkt Christmas Market
November 22nd – December 31st
Gendarmenmarkt
10117 Berlin
The Gendarmenmarkt was my second favorite out of the 2021 Berlin Christmas markets. Firstly, the market was huge and packed. It might have been my favorite market if it wasn’t for all of the people, but it was still really fun. We went on an exceptionally cold night, so we had to make sure to keep drinking hot wine in order to stay warm. We wandered around the shops for awhile and watching the dancing Christmas tree performances while we were at the market.
Alexanderplatz Christmas Market
November 22 – December 26
Alexanderplatz
10178 Berlin
Alexander Platz Christmas market is a good middle tier Christmas market. It didn’t give me the same movie level Christmas vibes as Lucia and Gendarmenmarkt, but it still had all the classic market touches. I went to the Alexander Platz market a few times and tried the Glühwein and the food cooked in steel pots. It was all delicious!
WINTER WORLD Christmas Market
October 29 – Jan 2
Postdamer Platz
10785 Berlin
This was the first Christmas market I went to because it opened starting in October! It was also the smallest market I went to, but I still loved the little Christmas vibes that Postdamer Platz had to offer.
