Another amazing week in the books! I started off the week by locking myself in my room to recharge and reset before round two of travelling. In the middle of the week I picked up my parents from the airport and we scootered over every inch of Berlin. To round out the week we got on a plane and flew to the Canary Islands, only 50 miles off the coast of Africa.
STARTING OFF SLOW
I spent the entire first half of the week relaxing. After the crazy few weeks, this rest is exactly what I needed before heading into the second half of my summer travelling. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were the eye in the middle of my traveling storm. To represent this relaxing lazy phase of my week, here is a screenshot of Lola (my roommates dog) facetiming Jamie (my sibling’s dog).

MOM AND DAD MAKE IT TO BERLIN
I love picking people up from the airport when they come to visit me and this week I was lucky enough to find my parents at the arrivals terminal!

SUNSET ON THE SPREE
After collecting my parents from the airport, we dropped their things off at the Airbnb and headed back out to the East Side Gallery. Seeing the Berlin wall is one of the must do things in Berlin, so I figured it made sense to just knock it out on hour one. Afterwards we walked trough Kreuzberg and along the Spree at sunset. A perfect first evening in Europe.

HACKER’S BAcKEReI
No better way to start the day than with cake and pastries from my favorite backerei, Hacker Backerei.

SCOOTERS AND SIGHTSEEING
My parents were warned by my brother that they would be getting their steps in while visiting me and I held true to this warning. However, this time I added one small adjustment to our transportation plan… scooters. I think scooters are a very polarizing vehicle and I am proud to announce I am fully team scoot. They make getting around the city and seeing all of the sights so much more efficient. Worlds better than taking the train or calling a cab. While we were on scooters we zig zagged by the Reichstag Building, through Brandenburg gate and all around the major historical attractions in Mitte. After walking along the wall at Topography of Terror we headed south to Tempelhofer Feld and grabbed a few beers and chips for a mini mid-day picnic. To transition into the drinking portion of our day we headed to Birgit & Bier Biergarten for a few pints before jumping over to Freischwimmer for aperol spritz and dinner on the water.

BOROS BUNKER
Boros bunker is one of my favorite art museums in Berlin. The history and atmosphere of the space make stepping into the gallery feel special. I love that the collection is always accompanied by a tour guide and that each time I go I learn more facts about the art on display. The works currently on display in the collection cover the following artists: Jean-Marie Appriou, Julian Charrière, Eliza Douglas, Thomas Eggerer, Louis Fratino, Cyprien Gaillard, Ximena Garrido-Lecca, Yngve Holen, Klára Hosnedlová, Anne Imhof, Alicja Kwade, Victor Man, Kris Martin, Nick Mauss, Jonathan Monk, Adrian Morris, Paulo Nazareth, Berenice Olmedo, Amalia Pica, Bunny Rogers, Michael Sailstorfer, Wilhelm Sasnal, Pieter Schoolwerth, Anna Uddenberg, Julius von Bismarck, Eric Wesley, He Xiangyu.

TIME FOR THE CANARY ISLANDS!

TOUCHDOWN IN TENERIFE
Day one in the Canary Islands was amazing. We kicked off the day in Santa Cruz de Tenerife with shopping at Mercado Nuestra Senora de Africa and tapas at Baobab. Afterwards we drove to our first beach at Playa de Las Teresitas and dove head first into the crystal blue Tenerife sea. To continue our beach time we headed to Playa El Bollullo on the North side of the island. Bollullo is a volcanic black sand beach, but when we got there we stumbled upon an amazing cliffside restaurant that we had to stop at for dinner and drinks. To end the night we caught sunset on the water in the small town of San Marcos and then drove over the mountain while the sky looked like it was on fire.
