Day Eight Detour to Cambodia: Rainstorms and visas

Another early day on the books, but this time it was for our flight. After celebrating our one week anniversary with the Bens yesterday we all decided to go on two separate mini trips. The Bens rented motorcycles and drove to Pai, which is a small hippie town in the mountains of Thailand. While the Bens drove to Pai… Pat, Jordan and I caught a morning flight over to Siem Reap, Cambodia. I love the group of friends that we made in Bangkok because everyone loves to do things together, but at the same time we were all down to explore on our own and split up. Travel tip #31… hike your own hike. This saying basically means: go at your own pace, do what you want to do, it’s your life and it’s your vacation.

While the Bens were checking into their outdoor hostel in Pai, we were figuring out the visa process in the Cambodian airport. Once you get to Cambodia the visa process is easy, but in all honestly, we should have looked up the process before randomly showing up in another country. We got lucky and the visa was only $25 each, plus the stamp that they give out was pretty cool.

Travel Tip #37

Once we were in town we took a taxi to the hostel and as soon as we got in the door it started torrentially downpouring. Rain normally isn’t great, but this rain had two positives. One, the roof was tin and the rain sounded amazing. Two, we got the chance to meet our amazing suitemates.

After the storm finally passed we were starving, so we dropped our bags off in the room and turned right back around to go find food. After eating Pad Thai non stop for the past week it was nice to try out a different cuisine. Once we were fueled up on food we went back to the hostel to hang out by the pool, drink 2 for 1 cocktails and exchange stories with our new hostel friends.
