While we were in Vienna, my cousin and I decided to take a quick 1 hour train ride over to Bratislava for the day. The train ride went through farms, fields and by many wind turbines. It was an enjoyable 1 hour ride and we took the time to catch up on our journals and research what we should do in Bratislava.
When we got to Bratislava we arrived at the main train station, Bratislava hlavná stanica, which is abbreviated as Bratislava hl.st. The floor of the station is covered in colorful lines that direct you where you need to go in the station, which was perfect for someone who can’t speak the language. As soon as our train was fully stopped I hopped off the car and took the blue line straight to the water closet.
Slavín Statue
The Slavín statue is a memorial monument and cemetery for soldiers who died during WW2. The statue sits at the top of a hill and is surrounded by a cute villa. There are many transportation options to get to the top of Slavín memorial, but I recommend taking the steps that cut through the surrounding neighborhood. It’s a slight workout, but the street views are worth the sweat.
Presidential Palace
The Presidential Palace is located in Old Town and has an expansive garden on one side of the building. The expanisve garden has interesting statues, beautiful flowers and a cute little park. While we were at the palace we also got to see the changing of the guards, which happens about every 60 minutes.

Modrý Kostolík – Kostol Sv. Alžbety
St. Elizabeth Church, also known as the Blue Church, is a popular building to visit in Bratislava because the building’s color and surrounding landscaping are fairy-tale like. The Catholic church is covered from head to toe in blue and I’m jealous of the people who get to casually walk by this beauty every day.
Bratislava Castle
Bratislava Castle is located on the opposite side of the city from the train station, but once we got there it was fun to look back out over the city. The castle is a Baroque building dating back to 907 A.D. and the surrounding park is a great place for a scenic stroll. The castle hosts rotating exhibits throughout the year and has a massive garden courtyard with lovely landscaping.
Colorful Buildings in Old Town
Outside of the main tourist attractions, we spent most of our time walking around Bratislava and admiring the architecture. Every street has a little surprise and I loved imagining which apartment I would choose to live in if I had the choice. I’m not sure where I would end up in Bratislava, but I would hope my street would be one of the bright yellow and pink ones.
