Bucket list item, check! Windsor castle is the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. It’s located in the town of Windsor, which is only 15 minutes from Heathrow airport and an hour outside London. Whether you’re staying in London or you have a long layover at Heathrow, it is totally manageable to jump over to Windsor for a quick castle tour. I got to Windsor castle first thing in the morning and lucked out by being the first in line and one of the only people traveling alone. Sometimes being solo has it’s perks, like being able to walk through Windsor castle completely alone because the groups behind me took forever to go through security.
The first thing I did in Windsor was jump in a cab and headed straight to the nearest Nero cafe.
I got to the castle super early and was the first person in line! 
Pro tip, if you go alone you get to go through a faster check in process than the larger groups.
